Ixtapalapa Taqueria only opened a couple of weeks ago, so you may not have visited this new Gaithersburg restaurant yet. If you haven't, you might want to work a visit into your schedule pretty soon, as this place is quickly gaining a reputation for serving up tasty, affordable Mexican fare.
When you sit down, be sure to start with an order of the house-made tortilla chips (accompanied by fiery salsa or creamy guacamole, of course) and a house-made margarita. The main menu is split into two sections, tacos and antojitos, and regulars say both offer some pretty tasty bites. The tacos are inexpensive at just $2 each, so it's easy to mix and match a few different varieties. Customer favorites include the pescadoro (fried fish with pickled cabbage and chipotle mayo), carne asada (grilled steak), and al pastor (pineapple-marinated pork). If you prefer something other than tacos, no problem. The menu also includes enchiladas, tostadas, quesadillas, and more.
